CONCEPT

Concept
1.     name/genre
2.     idea u wish to explore
3.     emotion  I wish to evoke
4.     impact I wish to have on the audience
5.     brief outline of the story, character, style of the trailer

The name of the movie is Wishing stairs, and the genre of this film is horror. My film is Korean movie. The idea that I wish to explore is the value of friendship. As my genre of the film is horror, I expect the scariness and fear from the audience, and I want my audience to feel some kind of pity to my characters. I want my audience to learn something like the true friendship after watching my short opening scene. The film is all about the four high school students, who consider each other as a best friend. One day, one of these best friends got the highest score from the school, and other friend feels jealous. There is one special stairs called wishing stairs at school.  If people want to wish something, they have to keep saying their wishes when they climb this wishing stairs. These four characters show the general perspective of high school students in these days.

2.Explain

Discuss why this convention was used in this way in these two films. How does it link to the film as a whole? How does it develop an idea within the film? How does it reveal an attitude or point of view of the director? What was the audience response to the way this convention was used? What was the audience's expectation? Why? How did the way this convention was used conform or depart from tradition?

The convention of masked stalker was used in adding scariness and raising our fear up. The story of both of films Scream and Halloween are happening by the killer who wears a mask to hide face. Hiding their faces can make audience feel confuse and even more interesting. As a whole, the main point of these two films is the masked stalker. It develops spontaneous story of the films. To give an example, the masked stalker has something like revenge with the particular character, and kills the people around the particular character. I think these two films had successes to give a mysterious and psychological idea by masked stalkers. If the killer showed their faces, I think it would make our feel frivolous. I expected more tensions. When people saw the killer and they don’t know who are they, like misunderstanding that the killer is one of their friends who is making joke with them, but the actual face was that masked stalker is a killer and people was died by that masked stalker. It adds more tensions and scariness because I already knew that the masked stalker is a killer, not one of their friends. The idea of masked stalker is quite different with the tradition and usual horror movies which makes these two films as special movies to me.

1.Describe

1. Describe

Choose ONE convention across at least TWO movies. Describe how this convention is used in this film. Use specific examples (textual evidence: techniques, details) and refer to your notes as necessary.
The convention of masked stalker is used in both of Halloween, directed by John Carpenter and Scream, directed by Wes Craven. Masked stalker is used as killer who raise most of the our tensions. Masked stalker adds more scarism when they stand alone at the back of the people and staring at them without any sound. The masks help to show more psychological characteristics of killer as well. The masked stalkers are very mysterious too since we dont know the real faces of killer and it makes me to feel more curious about the movie. In the movie  Halloween, the masked stalker was  Michael Myers who is a pure and evil murdered his sister at a young age. In the movie Scream, there were two masked stalkers who are Billy and Stew. They are all close people known with the main character (Sydney) and these masked talkers tried to kill. The actual fact in the end of the movie which is the killers were Billy and Stew helps to add drastic and psychological ending.

Technique: Transitions + Length of takes

Technique: Transitions + Length of takes

The transitions of the opening scene are really excellent. As the opening starts with the main character who is James Bond, the scene ends with him as well. It gives an idea of importance of him. The opening of the scene is gun shooting of James Bond, and blooding on the screen. There are lots of symbols that we could see in the real Casino like heart in the game card and man in the card. Those symbols continue the every scene to the next scene. When people shoot the gun, a bullet from the gun becomes a heart and making line then it continues to the next scene. This happens continue which makes the every scene into one.

One of the very important transitions was the image at the end of the scene. The image is real face of the James Bond and it gives a contrast between the last scene and other scenes. It adds more realistic to the scene and helps to understand how the story is going in the movie.

Technique: Character/Performance

Technique: Character/performance

The opening scene is continuous by actions of main character who is James Bond. The actions are all about accomplishing his missions which is related with the genre of the movie. The opening scene starts with James Bond who is shooting his gun to the screen and it ends with James Bond who is looking seriously to the screen. In the first of the scene, Bond is sitting down to the figure of background and ready for his gunshot to the people. Bond was represented by making him as a black man and it makes his really stand out comparing to other people, fighting with others and gun shooting to each other. Those actions are all based on the story of the movie.

I could see him in every scene which makes me understand how he is important to this story. When he is fighting with people and gun shooting to each other, the image of the black man suddenly become a real man who is James Bond and suddenly become a black man as well. I think this is really good techniques because it makes me feel more curious of the story of movie. The slow actions and standing alone in the middle of the scene of Bond appears to me as a interesting main character in the movie.
